Hi! Yay, I’m so happy that you found us! We would love for you to join us here for encouragement to seek God this summer through the daily reading of His Word and through prayer!
You can follow along with us by daily abiding in Christ by seeking Him through the “a.b.i.d.e” quiet time pattern outlined above, and by joining us by following the One Year Bible reading plan also linked here and listed above.
We will spend time over the next few months sharing how to use the “a.b.i.d.e” pattern in your daily quiet time with God. We find this to be a helpful tool in preparing our hearts to seek God. However, this pattern is never a requirement in seeking God. God meets us where we are at, and we do not need to follow a specific method to do so. In fact, even though I teach and follow this method, I don’t always complete all the “steps”, so there is absolutely no pressure to do so! However, I do believe that the “a.b.i.d.e” pattern is a great tool to help build our daily habit of spending time with Him, and encourages a heart that is seeking Jesus in prayer + obedience to His word.
The One Year Bible plan is linked above, or you can simply follow the dates that are listed below, or you can even purchase a specific One year Bible. They have several different versions to choose from. Lord-willing, I’m planning to use a different translation each year to hopefully get a broader understanding of the different translations over the years. And, I also partner it with my study bible to be able to read notes, and cross references. In addition, I often look up different translations of the passages on my phone, in addition to looking up specific words in the Strong’s Concordance for a fuller understanding. We definitely encourage you to dive into some of these resources as well.
With that said, please feel encouraged to just use the list below with your current bible. You do not need to purchase anything new. And the Lord will speak to you through His Word! We recommend using a journal to write out the “a.b.i.d.e” steps. It’s such a sweet way to track all the beautiful things the Lord is teaching you, hide His word in your heart, and see the prayers that He answers for you.
And lastly, I just want to remind you to approach this challenge in prayer. Pray to Jesus and ask Him how He can guide and help you this summer. Tell the Lord your goals in knowing Him, and He will put a plan on your heart. Maybe start small and challenge yourself to read just a Proverb every day, or maybe just a Psalm. Or pick just the New Testament readings. Another idea is split up the reading, and do part in the morning, some at lunch, and more at night. The people from the One Year Bible suggest that the entire reading is only about 15 minutes, so I think we can all challenge ourselves to complete this worthy goal. It might just be the sweet challenge that you can be encouraged to take on and accomplish this summer!
And, remember to include your family and friends! Meet at the park, grab ice cream, or have a pool party so you can read, pray, and share what you are learning together! There is so much encouragement when we come together with our fellow believers to abide together in Christ!
Sweet friends, if you accept this challenge you will be so amazed at all the ways you will grow when you spend time with Him!
7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. Matthew 7:7-8
We are so excited to get into God’s word together this summer, and we pray that spending time with Him through the reading of His word, and through prayer will be a life-changing blessing to you and your family this summer!
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Amen
